Many gardens are enclosed exclusively by a hedge. There is not always enough green to prevent small children or pets from leaving the property at an unobserved moment. In this case, a fence that you subsequently integrate into the bushes provides a quick remedy.

A fence can complement a hedge nicely

Which fence is suitable?

A traditional wooden fence or a fence made of plastic or metal elements is not flexible and can therefore only be placed at a certain distance from the hedge. If you have enough space, you can attach such a fence as close as possible in front of or behind the previously cut shrubs.

Well suited: A wire mesh fence

A chain link fence (€34.49) can be set up quickly and easily and can be easily integrated into a hedge thanks to the material properties. You can adjust the height of the enclosure to your individual needs.

construction of the fence

  1. First of all, you should cut back the hedge. This is the only way you can place the fence close enough to the shrubs.
  2. Depending on the growth, it can be difficult to position the fence in an exactly straight line. Nevertheless, mark it as precisely as possible with small wooden stakes between which you stretch a string.
  3. Now determine the positions of the fence posts that should be placed between the bushes.
  4. Dig foundation holes. Be careful not to damage too many roots.
  5. Fill holes with concrete and put posts in them.
  6. Support the outer post with a brace. This is mounted loosely, then concreted in and then screwed to the fence post.
  7. Cut the tension wire at least 10 centimeters longer than necessary, thread it into the mandrel of the wire tensioner and tighten with a wrench.
  8. Pull the tension wire through the wire holders of the intermediate posts.
  9. Then thread through the end post and twist.
  10. Unroll a piece of wire mesh (€14.99), push the mesh tension rod through the first row of meshes and insert into the fence hooks.
  11. Unroll fully and use pliers to bend the top and bottom wire ends around the guy wire.
  12. If necessary, attach the finished fence to the trees with a piece of string.

tips

You should preferably put the fence in the hedge in February or March, even before it sprout. They then come closer to the main shoots. When the bushes sprout in spring, the sterile effect of the fence is softened by the branches.
