No matter what expectations you have of a plum tree. Any of the many varieties will definitely be able to fulfill them. Some of them promise particularly large fruits, while others come with an early harvest time. They all taste delicious. Here is our selection.

The Mirabelle from Nancy often bears slightly reddish fruits

Mirabelle plums from Nancy

Let's start with the most famous and at the same time the most popular variety. Although this Frenchwoman forms quite small fruits, they are produced in large quantities. Since the tree is very vigorous, it needs enough space to develop. Since plum trees are prone to some diseases, it's good to know that Nancy is resistant to the 'incurable' Sharka disease.

  • the fruits are almost spherical
  • yellow, slightly reddish on the sunny side
  • sweet in taste but moderately juicy
  • Harvest time begins in the second half of August

Mirabelle Bergthold

This old variety can give you slightly larger fruits. She also has less of a chance of getting Sharka disease. It belongs to the early maturing varieties. Here is more information about the round fruits:

  • golden-yellow fruits, with a reddish sunny side
  • medium-firm meat that softens quickly
  • sweet, with typical plum aroma
  • is about three weeks earlier than Nancy

Mirabelle Metzer

This medium-growing mirabelle tree also brings in a rich harvest. But in contrast to the two previously described varieties, its fruits are larger.

  • these fruits are also round and yellow
  • aromatic and sweet
  • give off a pleasant fragrance and are juicy
  • it can be harvested as early as July

Mirabelle Miragrande

What did the breeders want to offer us with this new strain? As it looks, you have turned each "screw" a little. Here are the details:

  • wears from the second year
  • the yellow fruits are very large
  • juicy and aromatic
  • are ready to eat between the end of August and mid-September

Three more interesting varieties

The Bellamira variety is robust against Monila and Sharka disease and can be enjoyed from mid-August to mid-September. Its fruits are golden yellow and large with sweet, juicy but also firm flesh.

The Mirabelle "Von Pillnitz" makes a lush harvest possible between August and September. The yellow fruits are very sweet and extremely aromatic. Their maximum size is given as 3 m. This makes it a good choice for small gardens.

Finally, bring in another flavor nuance. The apricot mirabelle "Aprimira" tastes sweet and has a light apricot aroma. However, it needs a second type of pollinator in the garden.
