The pink beetroot sprouts are pretty to look at, healthy and ideal for salads or as an accompaniment to hearty dishes. Unfortunately, the germination process is a bit lengthy. Find out below how to sprout beetroot and what you can use the sprouts for.

Which seeds for beetroot sprouts?
Conventional seeds are often treated with chemicals. Therefore, you should definitely buy organic seeds for your beetroot seedlings. There are also special germinating seeds, but these are less common for beetroot due to the long germination period.
tips
You can also use pricked out plants from your beetroot seeds as delicious sprouts.
Substrate for beetroot seedlings
Beetroot grows best in soil. Mold often forms in cress sieves or in special germination devices. An alternative to soil, however, are coconut mats (€21.90), which are less ecological - due to the long import routes - but are less prone to mold growth and leave no "dirt" on the roots.
Bring beetroot to sprout
You need for germination:
- A growing vessel, such as a plastic tray
- Earth
- Organic Seeds
- some patience
How to make beetroot seedlings yourself:
- Rinse the seeds well
- Soak the beetroot seeds in water for eight to 24 hours
- Fill your seed pots with soil
- Press the seeds about one to two centimeters deep into the soil and cover them with substrate.
- You can sow densely, as the seedlings are harvested shortly after germination and therefore hardly take up any space.
- Now water your seeds carefully so that the soil is not washed away.
tips
Make absolutely sure that the seeds are always moist during the entire germination phase! You should water your bowls up to twice a day.
Harvesting beetroot seedlings
Beetroot germinates very slowly. It can therefore happen that you only see the first green tips after 14 days. Depending on the variety, location and circumstances, the germination period varies between seven and fourteen days.
Accordingly, you can harvest your seedlings after two to three weeks.
