Like most other wild herbs, watercress is usually harvested before it blooms. However, it is one of the perennial herbs and keeps sprouting again and again, which extends its harvest season to many months.

Harvesting the watercress

If you want to harvest watercress, you can cut shoots of this plant five to seven centimeters long from around September. Harvesting is possible throughout the winter because watercress is hardy. However, never cut off all the shoots, but leave enough for the plant to recover well. The season ends only when the watercress begins to bloom in May.

Harvest Tips:

  • Cut shoots about 5 - 7 cm long
  • never prune the whole plant
  • Do not uproot the plant
