An eggplant plant is often traded as an annual plant because it is not hardy. Even at temperatures below + 15 °C, she does not feel well. Therefore, overwintering the egg tree in the garden is out of the question.

The egg tree likes it warm - all year round

How should an egg tree overwinter?

As soon as daytime temperatures drop below 20°C and/or nighttime temperatures below 15°C in late summer or early fall, it is time to move the Eierbaum to a bright, warm winter quarters. Continue caring for the aubergine plant as before until the end of the harvest. After that, limit the watering. The aubergine does not need fertilizer in winter.

The ideal hibernation:

  • bright, with at least 6 hours of light per day
  • warm at approx. 15 °C to 18 °C
  • do not fertilize
  • water little to moderately
  • After harvesting all the fruit, cut back the plant by about half

tips

In the spring, only put your aubergine plant completely outside again when the night-time temperatures are reliably above 15 °C.
