Would you like a crunchy, vitamin-rich salad? If only it weren't for the annoying cleaning that sometimes prevents you from preparing a delicious lettuce. A head is enough for a family meal, is quickly cleaned with our instructions and tastes good with a fine dressing as a starter. With fried strips of turkey breast or mushrooms, the tender lettuce becomes a wholesome main course.

Prepare lettuce
With one cut you can loosen all the leaves of the lettuce and wash it immediately afterwards:
- First, fill the sink with water.
- Cut the stalk out of the lettuce in a circle and add the leaves to the water.
- Wash thoroughly once or twice. Gently move the leaves through the water.
- To allow sand and dirt to settle, wait for the leaves to float to the surface.
- Remove carefully and drain in a colander.
- Pluck the leaves a little smaller, removing unsightly spots and spin the lettuce dry in a salad spinner.
Wash outdoor lettuce
In the lettuce from your own garden you sometimes find unwanted subtenants. These aren't a reason to throw the salad away, as they're fairly easy to wash off.
- Run lukewarm water into the sink.
- Add some salt and agitate the water so that the crystals dissolve completely.
- Add the lettuce leaves and leave in the salted water for a few minutes.
- The aphids are now swimming on the surface of the water. You can use a tea strainer to sieve off most of the little pests before lifting the leaves out of the water.
- Rinse the lettuce thoroughly with clear water.
tips
Lettuce is not only available in the well-known green version, but also in other varieties. Red lettuce, which develops very tender leaves, has a mild taste and looks great in a mixed salad, is becoming increasingly popular. Red lettuce is also less likely to be attacked by lice, as the animals prefer fresh yellow-green and avoid the dark leaves.
