Japanese myrtle can take its place both in the tub and in the bed. This is only minimally important for maintenance. In both cases, the owner must make time for them. Because especially during the growing season, it must be cared for regularly.

Fertilize
Supply planted specimens with compost or horn shavings every 2-3 weeks from April to September.(32.93€) Diluted nettle manure is also suitable as fertilizer.
Myrtles in tubs are fertilized with a liquid fertilizer that is administered via the irrigation water every two weeks. Alternatively, fertilizer sticks (€4.48) can be used.
pour
As soon as the top layer of soil has dried, the soil must be supplied with moisture again. The rain helps in the bed. If he pauses longer and with potted plants, the gardener has to do the watering.
- water daily on hot days
- otherwise once a week is sufficient
- water directly in the root area
- Do not wet leaves and flowers with water
- low-lime rainwater is ideal
tips
Empty the trivet about 20 minutes after watering so that the Japanese myrtle does not suffer from waterlogging.
hibernate
Below 2 °C it gets uncomfortable for the myrtle outside, because it is not hardy. If you want to make them bloom next year, you have to overwinter them. This only works if the myrtle is in the pot.
- bring them indoors before the frost
- the winter quarters must be bright
- optimal temperature range is 5 to 10 °C
- water sparingly from time to time
- fertilize every two months
The myrtle may be cut back a little to save space.
repot
Container plants are repotted annually. Spring is the best time to do this, just before the plant goes outside again. Use quality soil enhanced with some sand and clay. At the bottom of the pot there should be a drainage layer of coarser material several centimeters high.
After repotting, there is no need to fertilize for several weeks, as the fresh substrate is already well enriched with nutrients.
To cut
Japanese myrtle is cut back in spring. This step can be easily implemented at the same time as the repotting.
- Prune the plant vigorously
- but do not cut off more than two thirds
- it soon sprouts again and branches out
- this prevents lignification or bare growth
- Clean out withered shoots promptly
- this encourages new flowers
