The java moss is so versatile in terms of design that it should not be missing in any aquarium. However, the plant makes it easy for us to cultivate because it is very frugal. So it continues to grow even under less favorable conditions. Nevertheless, we should give it some care to make it even more beautiful.

Java moss likes it warm and light

temperature and light

In the aquarium, the java moss is surrounded by water. Its temperature has a decisive influence on its growth. The ideal value is between 20 and 30 °C.

In order for the java moss to get enough brightness, it is well placed in the front area of the aquarium with its low growth. If its place is not sunny or at least partially shaded, it should be additionally illuminated with a lamp. The lighter the moss is, the faster it will grow and form broad carpets.

Fertilize

The java moss has no great demands on the water in the aquarium. Therefore, neither a certain pH value nor the degree of hardness of the water has to be observed for this plant.

Change parts of the water regularly. In addition, this moss is supported in growth with occasional doses of liquid fertilizer. Otherwise its growth may falter and its beautiful green coloring may suffer.

To cut

Even without cutting, the java moss grows nice and dense. Even so dense that floating particles get caught in the felt made of fine twigs. Because of this, it is frequented by small fish and shrimp, which welcome this food. But it is also possible that the java moss accumulates too much dirt over time.

  • clear regularly if necessary
  • use sharp, clean scissors
  • be careful not to break branches

tips

You can also take a dirty java moss out of the tank and wash it off. Specimens that are attached can be sucked off with a mulm vacuum. But please don't get too close, as the delicate branches can be damaged.

multiply

If a nice carpet of moss has formed in the aquarium, it will take shape
multiplying easily. Halve the moss or cut off a suitable piece. Then attach it to a new place where it can continue to develop on its own.
