Goldprivet is adorned with attractively patterned leaves that are close together. But the growth behavior of this plant also contributes to its popularity. Speed and potential for size are two important key points. We also tell you how you can influence both.

growth rate
Compared to other types of privet, the gold privet grows moderately fast. Nevertheless, its annual growth is impressive at 30 to 60 cm. This increment applies equally to height and width.
height
Different information can be found regarding the maximum achievable height. While some nurseries assume 2.5 m in height, others promise more. Occasionally, with appropriate upbringing and care, there is talk of up to 5 m. Of course, the height is also a question of age and the living conditions under which the gold privet has to grow.
tips
If you cannot wait patiently for a young privet plant to grow, you can buy a large one right away. With a height of 2 to 3 m, however, the purchase price is several hundred euros.
broad
The Goldliguster is growing in width as well as in height at the same rapid pace. On average, it reaches a diameter of 1 to 1.5 m. However, it can also be 2 m. for one
Hedge, 2-3 plants per meter are recommended. Here the plants set each other narrower boundaries.
growth habit
This shrub grows well branched. The branches grow upright. Its growth form is described as vase-shaped. But the gold privet owes its final shape to the scissors. He often uses this. On the one hand, cutting is useful to limit it in height and width. On the other hand, this encourages dense branching.
A gold privet can even be raised with scissors in such a way that it grows as a standard tree with a round, well-formed crown.
Factors promoting growth
How well the gold privet grows depends on its location and
the care he gets. While it is well formed in any location, its variegation suffers considerably when there is a lack of light. He turns green.
It grows particularly well in a humus-rich, nutrient-rich substrate. Although it tolerates slightly acidic soil, the plant loves lime and grows faster with this element. The following factors also have a favorable effect on its growth:
- a deeply loosened soil without a tendency to waterlogging
- regular fertilizing from March to mid-August
tips
If a gold liguster is to grow well after transplanting, it is advisable to transplant it on a frost-free day between mid-October and the end of March.
