A gold privet is also happy if it does not have to form a hedge close together with other specimens. If it is allowed to stretch out its branches in all directions, it will thank you with a beautifully shaped crown. As a solitaire it is even suitable for the tub.

Goldliguster also looks great as a solitaire

Possible locations

Existing as a solitaire only makes sense if the gold privet is given enough space to develop. If a part of his crown has to be removed years later for reasons of space, it doesn't look nice. Therefore, remember the following dimensions in good time before planting:

  • a height of 2-3 m is possible
  • grows up to 2 m in width
  • annual growth is between 30 and 60 cm

A sunny location is also a guarantee that the Goldliguster will keep its beautiful color or pattern and not turn green. The Goldliguster can also be planted in a large bucket.

education cut

A gold privet as a solitaire requires a stable branch structure. In order for it to develop appropriately, you must educate the wood at a young age by cutting.

  • educate with 7 - 12 shoots
  • Cut back small privets to 15 cm when planting
  • leave strong shoots standing
  • completely remove weak shoots
  • slim down new shoots in the following year

promote branching

Not only a hedge, but also a solitaire can benefit from rich branching. That is why a solitary gold liguster is regularly cut back from a height of 50 cm. Two cuts a year are ideal, at the end of February and in June after flowering. Not only are healthy shoots pruned, but also dead, damaged and disruptively growing branches are removed.

get shape

In addition to the two prunings, you can always use scissors to shorten branches that are sticking out.

maintenance

A gold privet as a solitaire is maintained no differently than a privet hedge. It is fertilized at least once a year in spring with an organic long-term fertilizer. Regular fertilizer applications during the vegetation period are also possible. A tub specimen even has to be fertilized in several stages with a liquid fertilizer.

The Goldliguster likes it moderately damp, but not too wet. Here you have to water as needed.

standard

A nice way to cultivate gold liguster as a solitaire is the form of a standard. Since the gold privet rarely grows a straight trunk, nor can it be trained to do so by tying it up, the desired shape is achieved through grafting. Standard trees that have already been refined and trained are commercially available for sale.
