If the gold liguster is not just living as a hedge, it can develop into a visual highlight in the garden. As a solitaire, it will grow shapely on its own. But the upbringing as a standard makes it far more attractive.

Buy tall stems
Training as a standard tree with an evenly shaped crown requires some time and skill. It is much easier to buy a small standard. The main work is done, only maintenance cuts are left.
If you still want to multiply a gold liguster yourself and raise it to a standard, you not only have to be patient, but also obtain precise information on the pruning technique.
The supporting trunk must also grow strong and straight. However, this privet species likes to take crooked paths. Even the connection does not always lead to the desired success. That is why the trunks offered for sale are grafts on another type of privet.
Suitable planting site
Goldliguster as a standard can be planted out in the garden or cultivated in a bucket. However, its special shape should be emphasized by a well visible place. For example to the left or right of the entrance or as a pot specimen on the terrace.
maintenance
The high standard has no different requirements for care than other privets. Its soil must be moderately moist. Drought and prolonged wet conditions are not tolerated well. It must therefore be poured as required. Freshly planted gold privet and privet in the bucket have a higher requirement.
The high stem needs plenty of nutrients throughout the growing season. A commercially available liquid fertilizer is ideal for potting soil. Otherwise you can fertilize with compost and horn shavings (32.93€).
tips
Goldliguster loves lime and therefore grows particularly well in calcareous soil. You can therefore make him happy with carbonic lime fertilizer (9.70€).
To cut
A standard that has already been raised requires regular pruning so that the crown retains its beautiful shape. Prune once in early March and once after flowering. In between, individual branches protruding from the crown can always be cut back.
wintering
Only a standard tree that grows in a pot needs help during the winter. Although it is hardy, the soil in the pot freezes much faster.
- Keep the pot warm with fleece
- Place insulating styrofoam or wood under the pot
- Set up gold liguster on the house wall
The crown of the high stem does not have to be wrapped with fleece.
