An Albuca Spiralis flowers beautifully. But it is valued for its leaves. These spiral like corkscrews. We always want to see them lush green. But one day they turn brown. What's happening?

After flowering, the leaves begin to decompose

A sign of illness?

Don't worry, you probably haven't done anything wrong when caring for Albuca spiralis. Brown leaves are only unavoidable if the bulb plant is completely neglected.

Diseases and pests are also rarely the cause of brown leaves, although they can occasionally occur. Therefore, there is no harm in inspecting the plant in this regard

Browning is "normal"

Albuca Spiralis is a bulbous plant. After flowering, she withdraws her energy into the bulb:

  • after the end of the flowering period, a dormant phase begins
  • this is the case around March or April
  • with unaccustomed plants also at other times
  • the leaves turn yellow, then brown
  • Leave leaves until dry
  • only then remove and dispose of it

tips

Until the leaves have completely dried up, the plant can get a less conspicuous location. However, remember that it is toxic and must be kept out of the reach of small children and pets.
