If a garden has not been cultivated for a long time, ground elder and other wild plants often stubbornly overgrow entire corners of the garden. Dandelions, with their bright yellow flowers, undoubtedly look pretty in meadows, but are less popular with home gardeners. It is very effective to cover the weeds with a tarpaulin or weed fleece and thus simply starve them out. You can find out how to do this in the following article.

Black tarpaulins prevent weeds from growing

Weeds are prevented from growing

Properly laid, the tarpaulin does not let sunlight through. This prevents photosynthesis and the weeds die. If there is no light, the seed will not germinate. Even greenery that forms foothills, such as ground elder, is reliably destroyed.

Weed film is breathable and water permeable. Targeted plants are therefore sufficiently supplied with nutrients and the soil is aerated. Heat and moisture are stored and sensitive plants get a real growth boost, not only in spring.

Where can weed wrap be used?

The areas of application of this helper in the fight against annoying green are diverse. You can use the material:

  • in useful and ornamental plant beds,
  • under hedges,
  • in the rock garden
  • on the edge of the garden pond
  • under pavement

embarrassed.

Which slide is the right one?

There is a suitable weed cover for every area of application:

weight per square meter application
50 Perfect for the kitchen garden
80 Works well on rooted weeds. Good separating fleece between soil and beds that are mulched or covered with gravel.
120 Ideal for heavy weed growth on slopes or in rock gardens.
150 Professional quality laid under pavement that is trafficked.

Lay the weed control mat correctly

Laying a weed tarpaulin is quite simple:

  • First weed all visible weeds.
  • Smooth the surface and spread out the tarp.
  • Make a cross-shaped cut in the areas that are to be planted.
  • use plants.
  • Cover garden foil. Bark mulch, wood chips (€23.53) or gravel are suitable for this.

If you lay the weed tarpaulin under paving stones, you must also attach the film with ground anchors. Only then are the stones laid.

tips

Where there is light, there is shadow. Unfortunately, this also applies to weed tarps. Beneficial insects such as earthworms thrive poorly under the cover, as leaves and other plant matter no longer rot in the soil. For mice, on the other hand, there is a paradise under the tarpaulin. They hide underneath and nibble undisturbed at the roots. Overgrown by greenery, you often only discover the pests when the plants wither.
