A stone planter is only available in hardware stores? Is it too much effort to make your own? That's not set in stone. Use this guide to convince yourself that it's definitely worth it. to lend a hand.

A concrete planter can have very different shapes and sizes

building instructions

Required material

  • cement
  • peat
  • perlite
  • a wheelbarrow or a tarpaulin
  • Protective gloves (preferably with gauntlets)
  • a shape with the desired size of the later planter
  • another shape with a smaller diameter
  • colorful mosaic stones or pebbles, depending on your preference

Info: To protect your garden, you should lay out a large construction tarpaulin. Alternatively, you can mix the cement in an old wheelbarrow. Perlite not only makes the peat concrete weatherproof, but also light and transportable thanks to its airy structure. But beware, the cement mixture is highly corrosive, which is why intact safety gloves are absolutely necessary.

work steps

  1. Be sure to wear protective gloves when working with concrete.
  2. Mix the cement, peat and perlite in equal proportions.
  3. Choose the desired shape of your future bucket.
  4. Place the container on a plant trolley for easier movement later.
  5. Pour the mixture into the jar.
  6. Keep a part for later design and make sure that it does not dry out.
  7. Now push the smaller jar into the large container.
  8. Leave the two pots overnight.
  9. Ensure a dry location.
  10. The next day, free the dried concrete from the vessels.
  11. Drill a hole in the ground.

Note: The hole serves to prevent waterlogging from irrigation water.

Now you have a classic concrete flower pot. But how does this one stone look? Now the set aside cement mix comes into play. If this is already too dry, you may have to mix new cement.

  1. Coat the concrete bucket with the cement.
  2. Glue the pebbles or mosaic stones to the bucket in creative patterns, in an orderly manner or in a random order.
  3. Let the cement dry.
  4. Your stone planter is now ready for planting.

Note: Cover the hole in the bottom with a shard of pottery before filling the bucket with soil. Read here how to fill a planter correctly.
