Plant pots made of fiberglass are robust and also look good. It is only annoying if the hardware store does not currently have any copies in its range. In this case, the skilled gardener simply builds his own fiberglass planter. With the instructions on this page, you too can do it yourself.

Industrial manufacture of a fiberglass plant pot
- Production of a positive model of the planter from wood or plastic (identical to the later product)
- Fabrication of a fiberglass negative model
- Fine tuning and polishing of the model
- Painted with polyresin
- Stabilization by attaching three-layer fiberglass mats
- Removal of the mold after around 24 hours
- finishing touches
- Painting and re-polishing
- High-gloss vessels are varnished and polished four times
The material determines the robustness
High-quality models are made of pure fiberglass and can therefore be left outside in frost without any problems. However, for cost reasons, many manufacturers add stone splinters to the material. These soak up water when it rains and crack when there is frost. As a result, expensive fiberglass planters are really worth the money.
Build your own fiberglass planter
Of course, it is not possible for you in your own garden to carry out a similarly complex production as the procedure described above. For your self-made fiberglass planter, you therefore need a raw form, for example made of concrete. You can get the fiberglass you need for the fairing at any hardware store. Cut the panels and fit them around the blank. Nobody will notice the difference.
To create a rustic style, lightly roughen the material with sandpaper. In order to increase the longevity of the plant pot, you should cover it with foil before planting. Use drainage to ensure that no waterlogging forms.
