The potting soil in which the poinsettia was planted when you bought it is not always really suitable. Poinsettias like it slightly acidic and need a water-storing substrate. If you want to enjoy your poinsettia longer, simply mix the soil yourself.

Mix the soil for the poinsettia yourself
To mix poinsettia soil yourself and repot the poinsettia, you will need:
- peat
- Garden soil, preferably with clay
- quartz sand
- lava granules
- alternatively orchid soil
Half of the soil should be peat mixed with a quarter of garden soil. Sand is mixed in to keep the soil loose. Lava granulate (€13.99) ensures that the plant substrate can store enough water.
tips
You should be economical when fertilizing poinsettias. Too many nutrients cause the plant substrate to be oversaturated, causing the poinsettia to die. When giving liquid fertilizers, only use half of the amount indicated on the packaging.
