    The sun bride unfolds her unique long-distance effect in the garden if you treat her to this care program:

    Growth height and habit of the favorite Helenium define the best planting distance. For your orientation, we have put together recommended distances for common types and varieties for you:

    • Wild species Helenium hoopesii with a growth height of 50-70 cm: planting distance 50 cm
    • Sonnenbraut hybrids with a growth height of 80-100 cm: planting distance 70 cm
    • Sonnenbraut hybrids with a growth height of 100-160 cm: planting distance 80 cm

    What soil does the plant need?

    Their love of sun does not imply that Heleniums prefer dry, sandy soil. On the contrary, the summer beauty only thrives in fresh, moist soil, rich in nutrients and populated with vital soil life.

    What is the best planting time?

    The best time to plant Helenium is in autumn. The roots establish themselves more quickly in soil that is warm in summer than in the cold soil of spring. If you plant the Sonnenbraut in September or October, it will start the first vegetation period with a vital growth advantage.

    When is flowering time?

    The main flowering period extends from the summer months of July and August. This does not prevent many a Helenium breed from stretching the flower discs towards the sun as early as May, as the wild species celebrates. If you don't get tired of the flowers, cut back the first bloom. The rebloom then lasts until October.

    Properly cut sun bride

    The scissors play a central role in the professional care of Helenium. Properly cut the sun bride on these occasions:

    • In May/June, the shoots pinch off for bushy growth and a vital abundance of flowers
    • Trim wilted stems during flowering to make room for rebloom
    • The most beautiful Helenium cut early in the morning as a decorative vase decoration

    If you find regular cleaning too time-consuming, cut off the withered flowers by a third in one go in July. A rebloom then develops until autumn. The pruning close to the ground takes place either in October/November or February/March.

    Water Sun Bride

    Don't let a sun bride thirst. If the flower comes under summer drought stress, this dilemma means the immediate end of flowering.     Fertilize sun bride properly

    Strengthen the sun bride once a month from May to August with an organic fertilizer. Compost, horn shavings (32.93€) guano (121.99€) or plant manure provide Helenium with all the important nutrients. Cultivate the summer beauty in the tub, administer a liquid fertilizer for flowering plants every 14 days.

    In mild locations, the sun bride copes with the winter without having to take any explicit precautions. If the bed is in a rough region, we recommend the following protective measures:

    • Leave the foliage on the perennial until early spring
    • The plant cover with foliage and needle brushwood

    The greatest danger of winter does not come from freezing temperatures, but from drought stress. Therefore, if there is no snow while the freezes, water Helenium on mild days.

    If you want more specimens for your garden, you have two methods of propagation to choose from. How to grow new Helenium yourself:

    • Division of the rootstock in spring or autumn

Planted in a sunny spot in humus-rich, freshly moist soil, the transplanted Helenium will once again be full of vitality and willingness to bloom.

    Is sunbride poisonous?

    As a daisy family, the coneflower is closely related to food plants such as lettuce or chicory, as well as important medicinal and spice plants such as arnica or chamomile. There is therefore no trace of toxic components in Helenium far and wide.

    Sunbride does not bloom

    If the sun bride withholds her flowers from us, there is usually a solid reason behind it. The most important reasons for the absence of flowering at a glance:

    • Too dark location - solution: transplant to a place in full sun
