With the help of these methods, you will never have to throw away overripe bananas again. Depending on your taste, delicious smoothies, ice cream specialties or other desserts can be made.

Variant 1: Freeze sliced bananas

Freeze:

In the first step, peel the desired number of bananas.
The following details are important:

  • ideal width: 2.5 to 5 centimeters
  • Use: smoothies, shakes

For freezing, separate arrangement on a baking sheet is recommended. After about 20 to 30 minutes you can freeze the banana pieces together in a freezer bag.

Tip:

  • Squeeze air out of the bag before sealing.
  • 3 to 4 months shelf life

Thawing:

The frozen pieces are processed directly into smoothies, ice creams or shakes. Before baking, you should defrost the pieces.

Variant 2: Freeze bananas whole

Freeze:

It is possible to freeze the banana with or without the peel. Unpeeled bananas will keep in the freezer for about 3 to 4 months. Unpeeled, on the other hand, only 2 months. In addition, the latter have the disadvantage that the shell has to be thawed again before it can be removed. In addition, the pulp becomes very mushy.

Peeled bananas are frozen separately on a baking sheet or tray. When icy, you can store them together in one bag.

Variants with a shell can be placed immediately in a sturdy freezer bag in the freezer compartment. The shell quickly turns black. However, the light flesh remains edible.

Thawing:

For the preparation of smoothies or ice cream, put the frozen banana directly into the blender. In combination with other ingredients (fruit and vegetables) numerous delicacies can be conjured up.

For baking, thaw the banana completely before processing.

Particularities:

Freezing with the skin is suitable for the preparation of banana bread (sliced fruit), smoothies or ice cream. However, if the bananas are needed later in one piece, they must be placed in the freezer without the peel.

Variant 3: Freeze banana puree

Ingredients:

  • 1 long, overripe banana (250 milliliters)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice or
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ascorbic acid mixed with 1 teaspoon of water

Freeze:

In the first step, puree the peeled banana with a blender. Alternatively, this works with the help of a fork. However, the banana puree should be very well processed overall.

Add either lemon juice or ascorbic acid while stirring constantly. When everything is well mixed, the banana puree is placed in a freezer bag. Small freezer boxes are a space-saving alternative.

durability

  • at least 4 months

Thawing:

You can use the puree to prepare cold dishes when frozen. However, only the thawed pulp can be used for baking and cooking.

Tip:

Note the processed amount on the freezer container. This can only be determined later in the defrosted state.
