Older trees are not suitable for relocation. The young deep-rooters can be transplanted. We give you helpful tips for a successful implementation.

basics

The ideal time for transplanting is early autumn, before the first frosts come. After the harvest, the young fruit tree tolerates a change of location just in time for the hibernation. Note that the deep root develops many small roots on the surface. These must not be damaged when digging out.

Accordingly, the root ball must be completely exposed. It is slightly larger than the treetop. Prepare the planting hole in advance. This will prevent the roots from drying out.

Tip:

  • Trim roots and treetop
  • Goal: roughly the same dimensions

planting

The hole needs to be about twice the size of the root ball. The soil on the sole is slightly loosened to avoid soil compaction. In addition, the excavated soil is enriched with humus. Alternatively, a mixture of compost and horn shavings is suitable.(32.93€)

Tip:

Sandy soil is not suitable as a location for the ornamental tree.

Before planting, the root ball of the blood plum is soaked in plenty of water. Then position the blood plum in the center of the hole. Press down the soil as you fill up. In this way, the little plant gets support and air pockets are avoided. If necessary, a support post for protection can be integrated directly when planting.

Subsequent care

After planting, the regular supply of lime-free water (rainwater) supports rooting. So that the ground does not freeze during this important process, the wood should not be transplanted too late. A change of location in the spring should generally be avoided.

tips and tricks

The blood plum pleases with a lush yield on beds, orchards or even in tubs. Dwarf varieties or weak-growing blood plums are ideal for narrow locations.
