The firethorn is a medium-sized shrub that can reach heights of growth of up to six meters. Covered with strong thorns, it forms almost impenetrable hedges and is therefore popular as an evergreen property boundary. In spring, the firethorn adorns itself with numerous white, delicately scented flower clusters, from which the attractive orange-red berries develop.

Firethorn loves the sun
Plant the firethorn in sunny to partially shaded locations. Provided there is enough light, the tree also thrives in cool and drafty corners of the garden. To prevent diseases you should not set the firethorn too tight.
soil condition
Firethorn adapts to almost any surface. It prefers a well drained soil. Too much moisture makes it susceptible to root rot and pest infestation.
The substrate should have the following properties:
- slightly acidic to strongly alkaline
- like calcareous
- nutritious
tips and tricks
Loosen heavy loam or clay soil with some sand or gravel and add an extra layer of drainage in wet areas. This effectively prevents waterlogging.
