It grows and grows… The lovage is thriving and you want to multiply it, for example as a gift for your neighbor in the garden or your family? Then dare to share this culinary herb. That's how it's done!

Advantages compared to sowing
Dividing the lovage has numerous advantages compared to sowing:
- does not take long
- stimulates the growth of the mother plant
- You don't need seeds (cost and time saving)
- Cultivation vessels are unnecessary
- obtained plants have the same properties as the mother plant
When can lovage be divided?
Lovage should be divided too during its growing season. The best time is in late autumn, before the first frost after summer. This gives the plant time until spring to take root in its new location. Alternatively, the maggi herb can be divided in spring. This should be done before sprouting begins
Step by step
But now to work. How does the sharing of the Maggi herb work in detail? First, the plant to be divided is generously dug up. Excess soil is removed from their root ball. This makes the roots visible and sharing can be done accurately.
Grab a spade! With this you cut the mother plant, for example, in the middle. Next, the old plant is placed back in its planting hole. The newly gained plant, which is the result of sharing, is planted in a different location . A minimum distance of 1 m should be maintained to the other plant.
When planting the new lovage, you can put some compost in the planting hole. This nutrient bomb makes the start easier. Now, after filling with soil, the surface is pressed or trampled down. Then water well. Ready!
tips and tricks
Sharing the lovage does not have the sole purpose of multiplying. This rejuvenates the plant and strengthens its growth.
