Vervain is little known as a medicinal plant. But in the past it was valued by many cultures. But is it safe to use and non-toxic? Or should one beware of him?

Slightly toxic, but no poisoning known
Vervain should not be confused with the highly poisonous monkshood. Vervain is considered to be slightly poisonous, but no cases of poisoning have been reported to date. It is the ingredient called verbenalin that negatively affects liver function in high doses.
You can sow the verbena on your balcony or in the garden without a care and use it for mouth and throat diseases, intestinal problems, inflammation and poorly healing wounds. It works:
- calming
- diuretic
- analgesic
- anti-inflammatory
- and caution during pregnancy: labor inducing
tips and tricks
Vervain tastes pleasantly spicy when prepared as a tea and can also be used well for smoking over an incense sieve. It gives off a scent that is vaguely reminiscent of popcorn.
