Sharing is considered the most common and proven propagation method for lady's mantle. It is easy and quick compared to sowing. Nothing can go wrong with this guide!

When is the best time?

Rather, it is a period of time. This is in the spring between mid-February and March. It is important that the division is carried out before the plant sprouts or when it is in its dormant period. Alternatively, the lady's mantle can be divided after it has bloomed in autumn.

Caution: Never divide the plant in summer when it is in full bloom. Then it doesn't have much strength left to survive digging up and replanting without damage. His end would be near…

Prepare the lady's mantle

The plant to be divided is dug up with a shovel or spade. Do this generously so that the plant is not injured. Then remove the excess soil by gently shaking the plant and carefully crumbled the soil with your hands. The roots should be clearly visible at the end.

Get to the knife: Now sharing is the order of the day

A spade should not be used to divide lady's mantle, as with other plants. The reason: lady's mantle has sensitive fine roots that should not be damaged. If you have the opportunity, use a sharp knife. Clean it beforehand, for example by disinfecting it. Divide the root system of the mother plant once.

Find a place for the new plant

Before the mother plant and the new plant are put in place, it is advisable to briefly soak their roots in water such as in a rain barrel or in a bucket of water. After that, the mother plant is put back in place.

The newly acquired plant should be planted in a sunny to partially shaded location. The soil there should have the following characteristics:

  • humorous
  • loamy
  • nutritious
  • slightly acidic to neutral
  • permeable
