The vitamin-rich kiwi fruits are available in German supermarkets all year round. They come to Germany from New Zealand, Chile or Italy and taste fruity and fresh like a mixture of strawberries, melon and gooseberries.

The kiwi fruit arrived in New Zealand from China in the early twentieth century as the Chinese gooseberry and some time later was exported around the world under the name of the New Zealand bird. To this day, the Hayward variety accounts for the majority of fruit grown worldwide.
