Cherry laurel can not only be propagated by cuttings, the offspring by seeds also caps very well. These are found inside the dark purple fruits, which develop from the pretty white umbels of flowers until autumn.

Gain Laurel Cherry Seeds
Pick the ripe berries from the bush and thoroughly remove the pulp. To prevent the seeds from becoming moldy, you should let them dry on kitchen paper for a few days.
Grow cherry laurel from seeds
Cherry laurel is one of the cold germs and requires constant moisture and temperatures between minus four and plus four degrees for germination. You can sow the seeds outdoors in the bed or germinate them in a cold room or even in the fridge.
Cultivation in the bed
Sow the dry seeds as soon as possible after harvest, because if there is already frost it is too late to sow. Then the seeds can no longer swell sufficiently and the seedling cannot break through the hard shell.
- Choose a spot in the bed that provides consistent growth conditions.
- Mix garden soil with propagation substrate.
- Plant the seeds ten centimeters apart and cover with some soil.
- To prevent birds and mice from stealing the seeds, you should deploy a protection made of fine-meshed wire.
The refrigerator as a greenhouse
The easiest way to germinate the laurel cherry is in the refrigerator, as the temperatures here are absolutely constant. To do this, proceed as follows:
- Fill the bowls with potting soil.
- Plant seeds about ten centimeters apart.
- Sprinkle some soil over the seeds.
- Moisten the soil well, but make sure that there is no waterlogging.
- Allow seeds to swell in a cool but frost-free room.
- Put the seed trays in the refrigerator after ten days.
Measure the fridge temperature with a thermometer, this should ideally be around five degrees. As soon as the seedlings begin to sprout, you can take them out of the fridge. Continue tending the tiny cherry laurels in a cool place, such as a cold stairwell or garage, until they are big enough to prick out.
As soon as the small laurel cherries have reached a height of about five centimeters, the plantlets are separated. Shorten the fine roots a little so that the small laurel cherry develops vigorously.
