The clematis is one of the thirsty plants, but cannot stand waterlogging. In order to skilfully cover the water requirements of a clematis, a dedicated addition to the natural amount of rain is important. How to handle it correctly:
- Water freshly planted clematis plentifully, even if it has rained a little before
- After watering, there should be no puddles of water on the floor
- Check the soil every 2 days with a thumb test to water when the surface has dried
- Always water directly onto the soil and do not water the tendrils
- In the tub, the water requirement is generally higher than in the bed
If winter comes with severe frost and misses the water-giving snow, water the clematis on frost-free days.
