By no means every clematis is suitable for pot culture. Those species and varieties that thrive in pots are of course among the most beautiful clematis. Browse through a selection of enchanting hybrids for the tub.

Twice flowering clematis
Clematis growers are particularly proud of these hybrids because they flower twice a season.
- 'Fuyu-no-tabi': huge, white flowers up to 18 cm in diameter in May/June and August/September
- 'Red Pearl': a red beauty from Japan with dramatic red flowers in spring and summer
- 'Ètoile rose': pretty bell-shaped flowers dangle from the tendrils twice a year, followed by autumnal fruit decorations
- 'Clematis coactilis': a novelty from the USA with white flowers and graceful growth of up to 40 cm
In order for a double-blooming clematis to meet expectations, professional pruning is important as part of care. After the clematis bloomed on the previous year's shoots in spring, clean off the withered ones. Only in autumn cut back long tendrils by half on a frost-free day in November or December.
Summer flowering clematis
When summer is already drawing to a close, the following clematis hybrids unfold their blooms in the bucket:
- 'Durandii': bright blue flowers, up to 10 cm in diameter from June to October
- 'Huvi': develops deep red flowers from June to September and is extremely resistant to diseases
- 'Little Nell': the Italian clematis impresses with a delicate pink flower that looks wonderful in the pot
- 'Elf': this clematis lives up to its name with its pretty bell-shaped flowers and a height of up to 150 cm
The perennial clematis Clematis integrifolia with its enchanting varieties fits seamlessly into this selection. Although the species is not able to climb, it not only fulfills its ornamental task to perfection as a ground cover. In the tub, it also creates a heavenly blooming frenzy from June to September.
tips and tricks
In order for a clematis in the bucket to reach its optimum, the volume should not fall below the 30 liter mark. Ideally, choose a 50 liter planter to combine 3 clematis with different flowering times. This little trick guarantees an uninterrupted blaze of color from spring until late autumn.
