They shine white, pink or dark red and enchant every autumn garden with their beautiful colors - autumn anemones are among the most beautiful and robust flowers of autumn. The variety of varieties is so great that the choice is not easy.

Double or single flowers
The appearance of autumn anemones is not uniform. So there are breeds with simple flowers of five petals. Semi-double and fully double flowers are also possible.
The shape and size of the flowers also vary depending on the variety. The petals can be pointed, rounded or have a radial shape.
The three main culture forms
The gardener distinguishes between the three main culture forms:
- Anemone hupehensis
- Anemone tomentosa
- Anemone japonica
Anemone hupehensis is also known as the Japanese autumn anemone, while the anemone tomentosa is a felt-leaved autumn anemone. Anemone japonica is a special cultivar of Anemone hupehensis, which has produced its own breeds.

Consider the size and location of the garden
When choosing the right autumn anemone variety for your garden, you should consider the size and location. Very tall varieties tend to spread a lot. They are therefore not well suited for small gardens.
For small gardens or planting in pots, choose short varieties that produce fewer runners. Even in gardens that are very exposed to the wind, you will get more pleasure from low autumn anemone varieties.
In the first year after planting, all autumn anemone varieties need winter protection. It takes two years for the perennials to really settle in and become truly hardy. But then they are almost indestructible.
