Just two to three leaves, a stalk and a flower make up the snowdrop on the surface. This bulbous plant has a short growing season and is said to be one of the first flowers to appear at the beginning of the year.

Plant in fall or when flowering

Unlike most other plants, which are best planted when they are dormant, snowdrops are different. Early snowdrops from the hardware store or garden center should be planted between the end of January and mid-February when they are in bloom.

The individual bulbs are commercially available in autumn. Then the best planting time has come for them:

  • with the tip up and the roots down
  • 6 to 10 cm below the soil surface
  • Minimum distance between them 5 cm
  • shady or semi-shady location
