The propagation of the palm lily is quite simple. On the one hand, it forms offshoots that only have to be planted, on the other hand, its creeping roots like to sprout again. In this way, the palm lily can also be easily divided.
Propagation by offshoots
Since some palm lilies form offshoots themselves, their propagation is quite easy. These offshoots take root all by themselves without you having to do anything. Plant the young yuccas in a flower pot when they are about 20 cm tall. Mix the soil with some sand beforehand and water the small plants well.
These young plants should only be planted outdoors at temperatures of around 20 °C. Offshoots planted in summer can be planted out immediately after rooting. However, if you only planted your young palm lilies in autumn, it is better to keep the sensitive plants indoors during the first winter. In the next they also tolerate the winter cold and frost down to about - 20 °C.
propagation by division
Propagation by division is a bit more involved, you have to dig up the mother plant. Carefully divide this into two or more parts, remove any injured roots and replant the sections. In the beginning, these new plants should be watered regularly so that new roots form. If there is not enough root material, it will take a long time for the yucca to grow well again.
A room yucca can also be shared, but in a slightly different way. If the plant has grown too large, then cut or saw the trunk into several sections. Seal the upper cut surface so that no germs can penetrate there and plant the sections in fresh soil. Be sure to plant the trunk parts the right way round, otherwise no new yucca will grow from them.
