Shortly after the purchase - only a few weeks ago - the cyclamen still looked pristine. Now it's standing in the cozy, warm living room and is getting more and more pitiable every day. Read below which diseases and pests can be behind it!

Cyclamen are more likely to be attacked by disease if overwatered

Identify and fight diseases

Basically, there are no specific diseases that cyclamen are regularly afflicted with. If not properly cared for, illnesses can occur. The most common are gray mold and blight. The cyclamen wilt (fungus pathogen) is less common.

gray mold

As the name suggests, gray mold can be recognized by a gray and mold-like coating on the leaves. It occurs mainly when the cyclamen is too warm and the soil is too damp. This fungal pathogen can cause the plant to die…

For gray mold, consider the following:

  • not always treatable
  • Prevention is better than cure
  • repot immediately if infested
  • Change location (no warmer than 20 °C).
  • water moderately
  • Air the room regularly

blight

Blight occurs when cyclamen is watered too liberally so that the soil is wet. In addition, withered and not removed leaves favor this disease.

As a rule, there is no rescue in sight from tuber blight, even if the cyclamen is repotted. Therefore, the motto is: prevention. Water the cyclamen from below, regularly but not excessively. You should also remove withered plant parts immediately.

Identify and fight pests

The vine weevil and its larvae eat their fill of cyclamen leaves. You can get rid of this pest by going out at night with a headlamp and catching the beetles (nocturnal) in the act and collecting them.

The cyclamen mite can also be dangerous. In particular, it eats the tips of the shoots and deforms leaves and flowers. Their larvae live in the soil and eat the tuber and roots. Repot the cyclamen quickly into a new substrate and rinse the roots beforehand

tips and tricks

Yellowed leaves are not necessarily an indication of disease. In most cases, these are care errors that are the underlying cause.
