Fruits: beautiful, but unfortunately not edible
In the fall, the buckthorn buckthorn, also known as the fern-leaved buckthorn, develops small reddish to black berries that look a bit like blueberries. But: The fruits are poisonous and therefore not at all suitable for consumption. The leaves of the plant are also considered poisonous.
So you should be careful and take good care if you keep a buckthorn in your garden and have small children or pets. When in doubt, it is better not to use the alder buckthorn so as not to take any unnecessary risks. Finally, there are numerous other attractive - buckthorn-like - plants that are non-toxic.
