Moss grows not only under trees and on flower beds, but also on paving stones and patios when they are damp. It is relatively easy to remove moss from smooth surfaces, but it is somewhat more difficult and labor-intensive to remove exposed aggregate concrete.

Moss can be easily removed with a high-pressure cleaner

Salt and vinegar are often mentioned as home remedies for moss. However, since they are harmful to the environment, large areas should not be treated with them. Scrubbing with hot water is very tiring unless your patio is small. You should use a different method here.

Can I just flame the moss?

Flaming is actually a fairly easy way to remove moss from concrete. It is environmentally friendly and leaves no harmful residues on the treated area. However, it is not entirely harmless, as flaming can easily ignite other things, such as your own feet or nearby combustible materials.

Is a pressure washer suitable for removing moss?

You can also use a high-pressure cleaner (€119.90) to remove moss from patio and pavement slabs. To make it easier for stubborn moss to detach from the plates, you should spray them from a small distance, as the pressure is particularly high. On the other hand, you treat sensitive surfaces with a greater distance between the nozzle and the surface, and you can also treat light soiling in this way.

How do I clean the joints?

The joints are best cleaned with a special joint scraper or an old knife. However, you should carry out this cleaning relatively regularly, otherwise not only moss but also grass and other weeds will grow in the joints and under certain circumstances push the aggregate concrete slabs up or apart.

Scraping out is no longer enough to make your patio or path nice and straight again. You should pick up the slabs, level the subfloor, and then reinstall the slabs. Regular scraping of joints is certainly the more pleasant work.
