Lovers of the hot pods enjoy them with their snacks, as a starter, in a salad or on a pizza. In fact, it is very easy to cook the peppers yourself in different degrees of spiciness and with varying ingredients.

Preserve pepperoni
The small, more or less hot pods can be preserved without an automatic cooker. You only need sterilized twist-off jars or jars with a swing top. The glasses are germ-free by boiling water or 10 minutes in the oven at 100 degrees.
In addition to the pepperoni, you will also need various ingredients, such as:
- water and vinegar
- olive oil
- onions and garlic cloves
- bay leaves
- Allspice and peppercorns
- salt and sugar
Now you can prepare the vegetables.
- Wash the peppers and remove the stalk.
- Peel the onions and the garlic cloves, dice both.
- Prepare a broth of water, vinegar, olive oil, salt and sugar, as well as the diced onion and garlic.
- Boil the stock and add the pepperoni for a few minutes.
- Remove the peppers with a slotted spoon and pour them into the prepared glasses.
- Now pour the hot liquid over it. The peppers should be completely covered.
- Close the jars and immediately turn them upside down for about ten minutes. This creates a vacuum and the peppers are sealed airtight. When the jar lids "pop" as they cool, they are airtight.
- Let the pickled pods sit in a dark and cool place for a few weeks before trying them for the first time.
Special tips for pickling hot peppers
The hot pods pull through particularly well if you prick them several times with a toothpick before inserting them.
Try pepperoni in brine. Here you replace the vinegar with a strong brine, which is also seasoned with various spices. Rosemary, thyme or oregano are suitable as spices.
If you prefer to enjoy the pepperoni a little milder, you should add one or two tablespoons of honey to the brew. The honey counteracts the spiciness of the pods and gives them a sweet and sour aroma.
If you pickle red, yellow and green peppers together, you get a particularly pretty result, which is also well suited as a souvenir when invited to dinner.
