When the pears begin to ripen in autumn, the quantities hanging on the trees in the garden are often unmanageable. However, since pears are ideal for preserving, they can be preserved in jars for the winter.

If you have too many pears, you can pick them up deliciously

Soak the pears in the sugar sauce

If you want to preserve your pear harvest, make sure that you only use ripe fruits, but they must not be overripe. You should also not use damaged fruit, as the goods could spoil.
Preserved pears keep in the jar for several years. However, after about a year they lose flavor.

Wake up in the wake-up kettle

  1. Prepare the pears. The fruit is peeled, cored, halved or quartered.
  2. Soak the pear pieces in lemon water to keep them from discoloring during the prep time.
  3. Sterilize the mason jars you intend to use.
  4. Make a sugar syrup. 500 g of sugar are dissolved in one liter of water and boiled down a little. Spices such as B. a cinnamon stick or a vanilla bean added.
  5. Place the pears as close together as possible in the glasses and pour the liquid over them. The fruit should be covered and there should still be about an inch of space at the top of the glass.
  6. Close the jars with a screw cap or rubber ring and jar lid.
  7. Do not place the glasses too close together in the alarm kettle.
  8. Set the machine to 90 degrees and once the temperature is reached, the pears will take about half an hour to cook.
  9. Let the alarm kettle cool down a little, then carefully remove the glasses and let them cool down completely under a tea towel.

Wake up in the oven

If you don't have a wake-up kettle or a preserving machine, you can also preserve your pears in the oven. Prepare the pears as instructed.

  1. Preheat the oven to 150 degrees.
  2. Place your glasses in the oven's drip tray or use a large, deep casserole dish.
  3. Now add water until the glasses are about two centimeters deep in the water.
  4. Slide the drip tray onto the middle shelf of the oven.
  5. Let the jars cook for an hour at 150 degrees.
  6. When the cooking time is up, leave the jars in the switched-off oven for another half hour, then remove the jars and let them cool under a kitchen towel.
