A blooming camellia is a beautiful sight. Unfortunately, this plant is not as easy to care for as some garden owners would like. A wrong location leads to brown leaves or a failure to flower just as quickly as wrong care.

Too much sun can cause camellia to get sunburned

Why does camellia get brown leaves?

The right location is very important for the health of your camellia. Too much sun at the wrong time can quickly lead to sunburn or dry out the entire plant. Nevertheless, a camellia needs a lot of light to form plenty of buds. It is therefore best to give it a spot in the light shade, where it is protected from the midday sun in summer and the morning sun in winter.

Other causes of brown leaves on your camellia can be aging of the plant or waterlogging. Mistakes in fertilization should also be taken into account. Wrong fertilizer or too high a dose come into question here.

Possible causes of brown leaves:

  • sunburn
  • too much or wrong fertilizer
  • overaging
  • waterlogging

Can I still save my camellia?

If you notice leaf discoloration on your camellia, act quickly before it sheds its leaves. Soaked soil can be replaced with dry soil. The wrong fertilizer can be flushed out of the root ball, as can too much fertilization. It's tedious, but helpful.

In the case of sunburn, shading is the first aid measure. In the long term, however, you should transplant your camellia. If your camellia grows in a pot, then place the container in a more suitable place in the partial shade.

tips

Always respond to leaf discoloration immediately or your camellia will eventually drop its leaves.
