Can't you get enough of green asparagus? How about your own bed? After all, home-grown vegetables taste twice as good. Planting green asparagus is not that difficult. Below you will find helpful instructions so that you can soon enjoy the crunchy spring vegetables to the fullest.

Green asparagus needs a lot of sun

method

When planting green asparagus, the following steps are necessary:

  • the preparation of the bed
  • dig the plant ditch
  • enrich the soil
  • plant the green asparagus
  • heap up earth

Prepare the bed

Once you have determined a suitable location with enough space, you must clear it of weeds before you can plant the green asparagus in the ground. A fully sunny spot is important for good growth of the asparagus. Don't just think about the above-ground plants, also remove the roots below the ground. Hook the soil well.

Dig the plant trench

Now dig a ditch 30 cm wide and 40 cm deep. Keep a distance of 40 cm between the individual trenches. A string makes it easier to estimate the dimensions. Finally loosen the soil again.

Enrich the soil

Green asparagus needs a very nutrient-rich substrate. Therefore, work a 5 cm thick layer of compost into the trenches. Rotten manure, for example, is suitable for this. The compost should already be ripe. Then pour some excavation onto the compost layer so that the roots do not come into contact with the fertilizer later. Since these are very sensitive, they otherwise threaten to "burn".

Plant the green asparagus

Now you can plant the green asparagus in the ground. You can get cuttings from the tree nursery, for example. The planting distance should be 40 cm. When planting, be careful not to damage the roots.

heap up earth

Finally, you only have to fill the planted trenches with the excavation. Watering is only necessary if the soil is very dry.
Although planting green asparagus is done in no time, you will have to be patient afterwards. Only after three years are the green stalks ready to be harvested and eaten.
