Parasol mushrooms belong to the giant parasol mushrooms - they look like magnificent parasols, which is probably where the name comes from. Thanks to their rich meat and wonderfully nutty taste, they are very popular. We will tell you how to dry parasol mushrooms and how to preserve them for several months.

How to properly dry parasol mushrooms
First of all, we would like to note that parasol mushrooms are not really suitable for freezing. If you want to preserve them, drying them is the only sensible option.
The following options are available for drying parasol mushrooms:
- in the dehydrator
- in the oven and in the air
- in the air
Dry parasol mushrooms in the dehydrator
- Clean the parasol mushrooms. Black and slimy spots must be eliminated.
- Cut off the stems and set them aside for now.
- Cut the hats into slices or pie-shaped pieces.
- Transfer the mushroom slices or pieces into the dehydrator.
- Switch on the machine and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
- Now cut the stems into small wheels.
- Remove the mushroom pieces from the dehydrator, then place the stem wheels inside.
- Grind the dried stem wheels into a flavorful powder in a mortar or in a coffee grinder.
Dry parasol mushrooms in the oven and air dry
- Clean the parasol mushrooms. Black and slimy spots must be eliminated.
- Then cut the mushrooms into slices three to five millimeters thick.
- Spread the pieces evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Dry the parasol mushrooms for about 20 minutes in a 40 to 50 degree Celsius oven. The door should be open a crack to allow moisture to escape. Simply clamp a wooden spoon in between.
- Remove the mushrooms from the oven and place them on newspaper.
- Now let the parasol mushrooms dry in the midday sun for another three to four days.
Tips:
- If you only dried the mushrooms in the oven, you would probably end up with black and hard specimens.
- Turn the parasol mushrooms regularly and replace the newspaper if necessary.
- Be careful not to let the mushrooms touch each other as they dry.
Air dry parasol mushrooms
- Prepare the parasol mushrooms as above (wash and cut).
- Spread the small mushroomy pieces out on a grid lined with either baking paper or newspaper.
- Place the grid in a dry, airy space.

As soon as the mushrooms rustle audibly, they are completely dry.
Proper storage of dried parasol mushrooms
It is best to store dried parasol mushrooms (including the powder) in airtight and dark jars.

- The powder is ideal for seasoning soups, salads and sauces.
- If you want to process the dried parasol mushrooms, soak them in lukewarm water for about 30 minutes. After that you can use the pieces like fresh parasol mushrooms.
