Do all ginkgo species need the same care?
In principle, all ginkgo trees have the same needs. They thrive best in a sunny spot, although the young tree tolerates partial shade better. Ginkgos make few demands on the soil, they even get along well with environmental toxins. The soil is ideally slightly loamy and not too dry.
A young ginkgo needs a little more care than an older tree. Give it enough water and regular fertilizer, as well as protection against frost, that's all it needs. After a few years, your ginkgo will be robust and hardy.
Which ginkgo species stay small?
The ginkgo varieties that stay small include the troll ginkgo and the dwarf ginkgo. Both are therefore well suited for planting in a pot, regardless of whether it is on the balcony or the ginkgo is used as a houseplant.
The Ginkgo biloba "Mariken" is only about one to one and a half meters tall and only grows about four to 15 centimeters a year. This tree is also one of the varieties that remain small. With its spherical crown, it is very attractive. Unlike other species, this ginkgo should not be cut into shape.
