The Chinese elm is a cold house plant. Whether it tolerates frost light frost is controversial. Apparently there are differences, depending on the origin of the respective variety. Bonsai trees from the Nordic hemisphere therefore cope better with the cold. What is certain, however, is that you should not expose your Chinese elm to sub-zero temperatures in the long term.

What does the term cold house plant mean?

Cold house plants must not be exposed to warm heating air. Moderate temperatures around 10°C are considered ideal. The advantage of this overwintering is that the Chinese elm does not lose its leaves.
