The flowering phase is of course the highlight of the angel's trumpet culture. Hence the poetic name of the South American ornamental plant. However, there is no general answer as to when you can expect the large, artistic blossoms to appear.

The flowering time of the angel's trumpet - rough and detailed information
Basically, there is already a general clue when the angel's trumpet blooms. For example, rough descriptions of the genus usually give a general flowering time from June to October. However, the exact flowering phase depends on the variety. Some varieties show their flowers as early as May, others only from July. It is useful to know that there are two groups within the Brugmansia genus: the warm and the cold group.
So:
- Rough flowering period from June to October
- Slight variation depending on the variety
- Varieties divided into warm and cold groups
The two Brugmansia groups are named after the origin of the associated varieties. Although the South American Andes are the home of all angel trumpets, the area has both warm sea regions and cool mountain ranges - and angel trumpet species have developed at all altitudes up to about 3000 m.
warm group
The warm varieties originally come from the lower altitudes and are therefore generally more used to warmth. So you can generally expect them to flower a little later - more like July than May. The warm group includes:
- Brugmansia insignis
- Brugmansia suaveolens
- Brugmansia versicolor
cold group
The cold group includes the varieties that come from the mountainous Andean heights and are used to colder temperatures. Its flowers can open as early as May and are also less sensitive to bad weather conditions. They can also flower in the winter if you can provide them with a winter garden or greenhouse with mild temperatures and bright light to overwinter! The warm group includes, for example:
- Brugmansia aurea
- Brugmansia vulcanicola
- Brugmansia sanguinea
