The small clementines are particularly popular in winter. In supermarkets they are usually offered in nets or boxes, the contents of which are sufficient for several days. So that some of them do not spoil prematurely, they must be stored correctly.

Possible variants for storage
Depending on how many clementines were bought or how quickly they can be eaten, there are three options for storing them:
- Store clementines at room temperature
- store in the fridge
- Freeze fruit
Store clementines at room temperature
You love clementines and grab them boldly? Then you don't have to do much with storage and you can simply store the clementines at room temperature. However, you should note a few things:
- do not store in a sealed container
- woven baskets are ideal
- also other open containers as well as wooden boxes with ventilation slots
- offer a cool place
- avoid direct sunlight
The fruits stored in this way have a shelf life of three to seven days, depending on the initial quality.
tips
It is best to spread a large number of clementines over several bowls, as piled up high they put too much pressure on the fruit below. Individual clementines will burst open and begin to rot and mold.
Store in the fridge
Particularly cool temperatures prevent the clementines from further ripening, so that they can be kept for longer. Clementines belong in the fruit compartment of the fridge. If there is not enough space in it, they can also be placed on one of the shelves.
Since clementines are peeled before consumption anyway, they can be stored in the refrigerator without further packaging. Still, packaging is useful to keep them together and protect them. For example the mesh bag in which they are usually commercially available. Under no circumstances should clementines be placed in an airtight container. Without adequate air circulation, the fruit spoils quickly.
The shelf life can be extended to up to two weeks in the refrigerator. During this time it is good to check regularly whether individual fruits are spoiled and to sort them out immediately.
Freeze fruit
Clementines also freeze well. To do this, they must first be peeled and cut into individual pieces. After being distributed into freezer boxes, they still need to be covered with sugar syrup. Frozen clementines can be stored for up to 12 months.
