The exotic pomegranates are real vitamin bombs. Their delicious juice is easy to obtain and tastes best raw and freshly squeezed. With a few tricks you can avoid annoying juice splatters on your clothes and countertop.

Pomegranates can be juiced in a number of ways

The easiest method: juicing with a pomegranate press

In Arabic countries, where the pomegranate has its homeland and is particularly popular, pomegranates are juiced with a special pomegranate press. The pomegranates are cut in half and placed in the press one half at a time and squeezed out by pushing down a lever. These pomegranate presses are very similar to the lever-operated citrus presses that we are more familiar with. You can use them for oranges, lemons and pomegranates alike.
Ordinary juicers are also an option for juicing pomegranates: just treat them like oranges. Note, however, that pomegranates can splatter profusely when juicing on a hand-held citrus juicer, and the juice can be difficult to wash out of clothing. However, you can place the juicer in the sink so the pomegranate juice doesn't squirt too far.
The advantage of juicing with a pomegranate or citrus press is that the pomegranate does not have to be pitted beforehand.

Core the pomegranates

If you want to juice your pomegranates using a method other than using a pomegranate juicer, the first step is to get the juicy pits out of the pomegranate. There are bitter substances in the skin and the white partitions that should not be transferred to the juice. Proceed as follows when coring in order to lose as little juice as possible on the cutting board:

  1. Using a little pressure, roll the pomegranate back and forth on the countertop. As a result, the fruit cores detach from the skin inside.
  2. Using a sharp knife, make a slit in the skin about half a centimeter all around.
  3. Grasp the fruit with both hands and use a counter-rotating motion to separate the fruit.
  4. The first seeds will tumble out of the pomegranate by themselves. Then hold the pomegranate halves over a bowl and scoop out the remaining seeds with a spoon.

How to juice the removed pomegranate seeds

Now that you have a bowl full of pomegranate seeds, you can juice them in a variety of ways. Please note that pomegranate juice is healthiest when it has not been heated.

  • Steam juicer: Fill the steam juicer according to the manufacturer's instructions, place it on the stove and, after about an hour, pour off the heated juice.
  • Cooking pot: Boil the pomegranate seeds with a little water for a quarter of an hour and then push them through a sieve.
  • Juicer: Juice the pomegranate seeds fully automatically using centrifugal force in the device according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Juicer: Gently grind the pomegranate seeds in the electric juicer and squeeze them out.
