Not all types of gorse, or all plants that can be found commercially as gorse, tolerate frost and cold in the same way. However, the real broom (bot. Genista) is not only robust but also hardy.

What care does gorse need in winter?
An older gorse does not need any special care in winter if it is outdoors. However, a young gorse or a gorse in a pot or bucket needs protection. Otherwise, the roots of potted plants in particular can quickly freeze to death.
The essentials in brief:
- True broom (bot. Genista) is hardy
- some species are not or only partially hardy
- Potted plants always need winter protection
- Young plants are more sensitive than old plants
tips
Young plants and gorse in tubs should be protected from frost so that the root ball in particular does not freeze.
