deep well pump: If you have a particularly deep well or one with a very narrow diameter, you need a pump that can build up significantly more pressure (than a simple well pump). Then a deep well pump is ideal. The high head ensures safe water transport. In addition, these pumps are normally freeze proof and do not need to be dismantled/put away in winter. operating mode

Manual/no power: There are still a few manually operated well pumps. These are operated by hand and therefore require no electricity. The advantage is offset by the disadvantage that the delivery capacity is significantly limited - apart from the fact that you have to use a lot of muscle power.

electric: Most well pumps are electrically operated. If you plan to use the pump regularly or even permanently, this operating mode is the only sensible one. You generally need a classic 230V mains power supply for this. Depending on the quantities the pump is to deliver, a lower output is absolutely sufficient (below 100 watts) or a high output is essential (from 500 watts and up).

battery pack: A special form of the electrically operated well pump is the battery-powered one. Practically, this variant does not require a direct power connection, but you have to charge the battery regularly.

Delivery height and quantity

The deeper the well and the more water is required, the more powerful the well pump must be in relation to the maximum delivery height and volume. Only if the values of these two criteria cover the demand does sufficient water flow up from the well.

Two examples:

  • For watering a larger garden plot, we recommend a flow rate of around 5,000 liters per hour (or more).
  • For a smaller garden with only one or two lawn sprinklers, a flow rate of between 300 and 1,500 liters per hour is absolutely sufficient.

Important: You simply measure the required delivery height based on the depth of your well.

When printing, you only have to make sure that it harmonises with the flow rate. Example: At 5,000 liters per hour, 5 bar is ideal; at 300 to 1,500 liters per hour, a pressure of less than 1 bar is sometimes sufficient. Of course, it is always better if the pressure is as high as possible.

The suction height is defined as the height between

  • the water surface in the well where the water is sucked in,
  • and the pump.

Always look at them in the context of funding levels.

Example: A well pump with a delivery height of 10 m and a suction height of 5 m can be set up at any point that is a maximum of 5 m above the water surface. If you place it at a height of 6 m, the performance of the pump will not be sufficient.
