The cinquefoil is non-toxic and easy to care for. It blooms quite reliably over several weeks and can be used in many ways. No wonder, then, if you want to have several shrubs at the same time. You can easily draw these yourself.

The cinquefoil is best propagated by division

How can I multiply the cinquefoil?

The easiest alternative to propagating a finger bush is division. For this, however, your shrub should have reached a certain size. Propagation by cuttings is also very promising. Cultivation is possible outdoors as well as indoors over the winter. When sowing, on the other hand, it takes a little more time until you get a flowering plant.

Pruning and growing of cuttings

Depending on where you intend to grow your cuttings, the recommended cutting time will vary. If you are aiming for outdoor cultivation, then pruning in (early) summer makes sense. Cut the approximately 10 to 20 centimeter long cuttings from the already slightly woody side shoots of your cinquefoil diagonally below a bud.

For indoor cultivation, do not cut your cuttings until autumn or winter. They root quite well in a moist mixture of sand and peat at an even temperature. Only when sufficient roots have formed can a young cinquefoil be put out into the bed.

Cultivation of cuttings in brief:

  • easy propagation by cuttings possible
  • Cut shoots about 10 to 20 cm long
  • Incision: diagonally below a flower bud
  • best time for growing indoors: November to February
  • Remove the foliage from the cuttings
  • Cultivation frost-free in a moist sand-peat mixture
  • keep evenly moist
  • Plant out from April after successful rooting
  • Alternative: pruning in summer, cultivation directly outdoors

Can I also use clippings for propagation?

If you cut back your cinquefoil a little harder, then take a closer look at the clippings. If you find strong healthy shoots with a length of about 10 to 20 centimeters, you can use them for cuttings. The shoots should have at least one flower bud in the lower area.

tips

The non-toxic cinquefoil can be propagated quite well, there are various methods available: sowing, root division and propagation by cuttings.
