Felling a tree and then pulling the tree roots out of the ground is a very tiring business. With large trees, you won't get very far without a tiller or mini excavator. With smaller trees, it is worth trying to remove the tree root with a cable pull. How to do it!

First, the root must be exposed as far as possible

What you need for cable removal

  • spade
  • Axe
  • 2 stable tension belts
  • hand pulley

In addition, there must be a very solid object within easy reach to which you can attach a ratchet strap. A thicker tree is best suited for this. It must be able to withstand the tension of the belt, which can be considerable.

Excavate tree roots

First, spades and axes are used. Dig up the tree root as far as possible. Try to loosen them up a bit.

Thicker roots are cut off with the ax during digging.

Put on the straps

A ratchet strap is attached to the nearby tree or other object. Place the second strap around the tree root. Make sure it's really tight and can't slip off.

Connect tension belts with cable pull

The cable pull is first extended. Instructions are included with the device. The tension belts are then pulled so far that they can be connected to the cable pull. They are inserted and secured in the snap hooks on the cable pull.

With the lever, the tension is continuously increased until the tree root moves out of the ground. You may need to help out with the spade and axe. Above all, you should cut roots again and again.

The more tension you can build up, the faster the tree root should come loose from the ground.

Pay attention to safety!

Removing a tree root with a cable pull is not without risk. Make absolutely sure that the tension belts cannot slip under any circumstances. The force behind the voltage can lead to life-threatening injuries.

In principle, you should always carry out such work with support.

tips

Before felling a tree, find out if there are any specific regulations in your community. Larger trees in particular may not be felled without permission.
