Planting tree roots - different options

It takes many years for a tree root in the garden to decompose. If you leave the root in the ground for ecological reasons or do not want to remove it for other reasons, you can make it disappear using various means.

  • Green with climbing plants
  • Plant succulents
  • create a lawn

The easiest way is to simply plant the tree root. Suitable for this are plants that have shallow roots, like succulents that like to grow on rotting wood, or climbing plants that spread over the roots.

You can even plant a lawn over the tree root if you prepare it appropriately.

Sow tree roots in the lawn

In order to seed a tree root with grass, you must first mill it out so that you can put a layer of soil of 10 to 15 cm over it.

Once you have applied the layer of soil, you can sow the grass seed. It's even easier and faster if you roll out the turf over the tree roots.

Green tree roots with climbing plants

Which climbing and climbing plants are suitable for greening depends on the location of the tree roots. Ivy thrives very well in very shady locations. Plant a few small cuttings around the tree pit and place the tendrils over the pit.

Partially shaded locations are ideal for Clematis and Jelängerjelieber. Small and large periwinkles are also good choices for planting tree roots.

Sow morning glory in sunny places. Nasturtiums or sweet peas are also ideal for planting the tree root. You have to sow these flowers every year.

There are some succulent garden plants that do well on rotting wood. These include native orchids, shamflowers and moss species. Depending on the species, there are succulents for shady, semi-shady and full sun locations.

However, do not take such plants from nature, but buy them in gardening shops, as many of them are protected.

tips

With many trees, the roots in the ground sprout again even after felling. Therefore, check more often whether new shoots have formed. You should remove these immediately.
