- Attractive and durable: round raised beds made of granite palisades
Most raised beds are rectangular. They are the easiest to construct, but may have awkward corners. It can therefore make sense - also for aesthetic reasons - to bevel the corners (then a polygon is created) or to build a round raised bed straight away.

Round raised beds created quickly and easily - without building
Naturally, not all materials are suitable for building a round raised bed. Long wooden boards, for example, are difficult to bend into the desired shape. Nevertheless, there are a lot of ways to build a round raised bed in a very simple way:
- through the use of tractor tires
- through the use of concrete shafts
- by appropriately braided willow branches
- using gabions (wire baskets) that are filled with different materials
- through round walls or dry stone walls
- by means of upright palisades
- with baskets, barrels, large earthenware vessels or sacks of potatoes
Some of these misused raised beds simply need to be placed in the desired location, filled and planted - it couldn't be easier.
Attractive and durable: round raised beds made of granite palisades
Granite palisades are not necessarily one of the cheapest materials for building raised beds, but the result looks very appealing.
You need these materials and tools
For a raised bed with a diameter of 120 centimeters you need the following materials:
- 25 granite palisades (125 centimeters high, 12 x 12 centimeters thick)
- three sacks of dry mortar (approx. 60 kilograms)
- Foil measuring 3 x 3 meters
- about 100 kilograms of gravel
- about 60 kilograms of chippings
- Rabbit wire against voles
- if necessary weed fleece (21.70€) against stubborn root weeds
- a wheelbarrow sand for padding wire and weed fleece
At least two people are required for construction.
This is how it is built
Since the raised bed should have a circular shape, a wooden stake is first driven into the center of the intended area. Tie a cord or a piece of string to this and draw a circle around the stake with a radius of 54 centimeters. Now dig out the soil along the marked circular line - the round pit should be about 20 centimeters wide and 60 centimeters deep. The palisades are then sunk upright and about a third of their length into the ground and placed “dry” in a circle on a bed of gravel and dry mortar. The stone circle is lined with foil on the inside.
tips
Wedge-shaped gaps between the angular palisades are unavoidable. It is therefore all the more important that all palisades are aligned at the same angle - i.e. in an exact circle.
