The Pink Dwarf Banana, also known as the Kenyan Banana, develops very tasty little pink bananas. But for this you need to be patient and take good care of the plant. Then the dwarf banana even multiplies all by itself through the formation of children.

The fruits of the pink dwarf banana are edible

The pink dwarf banana thrives ideally in a sunny to slightly shady and warm place. This can be a bright winter garden, but also the balcony or terrace in summer. However, the Kenyan banana does not get dry heating air.

What can I do for a rich harvest?

In order for your pink dwarf banana to produce plenty of fruit, it needs a little care. Although it does not tolerate waterlogging, it does not like dry soil either. A little finesse is required when watering so that the soil remains evenly moist. Protect the sensitive plant from drafts or wind, regardless of whether it is in the conservatory or outside.

If you have space for possibly several banana plants, then take good care of your existing dwarf banana. This is how she forms young plants independently. Leave these so-called children on the mother plant until they are about half the size of the mother plant. Only then can they be separated.

Dig up your dwarf banana and snap off the kindles with a sharp tug. Now put the young dwarf bananas individually in buckets with fresh soil. Since each dwarf banana can develop up to ten of these kids, you'll soon have a lot of little bananas to harvest.

Do I need to cut my pink dwarf banana?

You can of course cut off dry leaves at any time. Even if the plant gets too big, it can be pruned. However, this can mean that your pink dwarf banana will flower much later and may have fewer or no fruits. To keep this risk as low as possible, you should cut back the plant in (late) autumn and not in spring, when the new leaves may already sprout.

The essentials in brief:

  • edible fruits
  • up to 2 m high
  • a bit high maintenance
  • does not tolerate dry heating air
  • Location: bright, warm and free from drafts

tips

Be sure to ensure adequate humidity for your pink dwarf banana. If necessary, spray the plant with low-calcium lukewarm water.
